Continuance, and the dangers of mono-focus.

Posted on December 1, 2008

So, I took my own advice a little too strongly – my pizza became a little strong in flavour, in one particular area.

In short, my spare time became consumed with too much photography and fashion related work, and not enough reading, writing and self discovery.

It’s easy to become a little too focussed on a particular passion – particularly for those of us with a personality that tends strongly towards the addictive.

So, in the last three months or so, I’ve dropped a few thousand dollars on photography equipment, worked with about 18 different models (6 of them just this weekend), and taken something like 20,000 photos. My skills have increased enormously, and I’ve created images that I still find breathtakingly beautiful. I have a plan in place for the next 12 months or so, which is intended to grow my skills, portfolio and network of worthwhile industry contacts.

In short, I’m doing what I should be doing, and feeling great about it both now, and with prospects for the future.

On the downside I’ve recently started feeling the lack of writing. I write mostly for myself, but with the hope that my readers can take some value from what I’m saying, and the gaps in my life that writing filled have been partially, but not completely filled by photography. So, I need to be writing more.

So, I shall.
